Muse Cell
Therapy
Some of the most interesting work in medicine right now is happening at the level of a single cell. Dr. Dane Flippin offers Dezawa MuseCells® for patients who want to explore what this might offer them. A consultation is required before treatment can be scheduled.
A discovery, not an invention
Muse cells were not designed in a lab. They were found in us.
In 2010, Professor Mari Dezawa and her team at Tohoku University published a finding in PNAS that reshaped how researchers think about the body's own repair machinery. Inside ordinary connective tissue — the same tissue every one of us carries — sits a small, distinct population of cells with unusual properties. She named them Muse cells: Multilineage-differentiating Stress Enduring.
They are identified by a surface marker called SSEA-3. They are not genetically engineered, not reprogrammed, and not derived from embryos. They occur naturally, they are remarkably durable under stress, and they behave in ways that ordinary cells do not. Fifteen years and well over a hundred published papers later, they remain one of the most closely watched areas in regenerative medicine.
How they find their way
This is the part that made researchers pay attention.
A signal goes out
Tissue under stress releases a lipid messenger called sphingosine-1-phosphate. It is one of the body's own distress signals, and it has been well described in the literature for decades.
The cell listens
Muse cells carry a receptor, S1PR2, tuned to that exact signal. In published laboratory work they migrate toward it — not scattered at random, but directed.
They arrive quietly
They also carry a naturally immune-privileged profile. Across the human studies published to date, they were given without tissue matching and without immunosuppressive drugs.
Delivery is by intravenous infusion — an outpatient visit, not a surgical procedure.

A careful safety record
Muse cells have been given to patients in clinical studies conducted in Japan, across several serious conditions and several research centers. The product used here is Dezawa MuseCells®, manufactured in the United States and released against a certificate of analysis for every lot.
No serious product-related events
Across the published human studies, no serious adverse events were attributed to the cells themselves, and no tumors were observed in any participant.
No matching, no immunosuppression
Patients in those studies received the cells without tissue-type matching and without the immunosuppressive drugs conventional cell therapies often require.
Naturally occurring, not reprogrammed
Because Muse cells are a naturally present cell type rather than an engineered one, they do not carry the genetic manipulation associated with other approaches.
Is this something worth a conversation?
That depends entirely on you — which is exactly why the first step is a conversation, not a booking.
Whether you are exploring MUSE Cells® for yourself or a loved one, the first step is a required consultation with Dr. Flippin. He will review your medical history, learn about your goals, answer your questions, and determine whether this treatment may be appropriate for you.
If you decide to move forward, treatment takes place by appointment at our Tennessee location in Munford, where Dr. Flippin serves as Chief Medical Officer, oversees the clinical team, and personally performs each infusion.
Your consultation gives you the opportunity to receive clear, personalized guidance and better understand the next steps in your care.
What to expect
You sit down with Dr. Flippin. He reviews your history and what you are hoping for, and walks you through the science candidly — including the open questions. Consultations can start by phone or in person.
If it makes sense to go ahead, you receive the written consent documentation in advance, in plain language, with time to read it and talk it over with your own physician. Nothing is rushed.
Dezawa MuseCells® are administered at our Tennessee location in Munford, as an outpatient intravenous infusion. Dr. Flippin travels there and performs these infusions himself — this is not delegated. You are there for the session and you go home the same day.
"When patients are searching for another option, I want to help them understand what is possible and make the decision that is right for them."
